MORGAN HILL – A man survived a suicide attempt Wednesday night when he jumped into Little Llagas Creek behind Maple Leaf RV Park. The creek was swollen from a day of heavy rain.

Firefighter/paramedics from the nearby California Department of Forestry, South Santa Clara County Fire station pulled the man from the creek. After administering CPR, the man was taken by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy where he was put on a mental health watch, according to Police Lt. Joe Sampson.

Jim DiVittorio, owner of the RV Park at 15200 Monterey Road, said the man, in his 50s, had lived in the park with his wife for about two months.

“He had been taking medication for a variety of work-related injuries,” DiVittorio said.

The RV Park was also the scene of a suicide Tuesday morning when Chad Church, 41, of Morgan Hill, shot himself to death after holding police at bay outside his RV for six hours.

Other residents have rallied behind DiVittorio and the park.

“The tenants have been pretty good,” he said. “They say ‘we love this park – it’s just bad luck.’

“As owners, we are concerned about everything,” he said. “We strive hard to keep this place ‘a number one.’ ”
