Four men were injured after an unknown man in a pickup truck fired a shotgun into a crowd of about 20 adults and children at a house party on Rogers Lane, police said.
At 10:04 p.m. Saturday, a white, two-door Chevrolet pickup drove near the parking area of an apartment complex at 7537 Rogers Lane, between Sixth and Lewis streets on the east side of Gilroy near U.S. 101, police said. A man, who was wearing black clothing, fired one shot from a shotgun into the crowd of people gathered in the lot. Four men were hit by the pellets, causing minor injuries to each of them. All four were taken to a nearby hospital.
Police did not have further description of the shooter or a second person who was in the vehicle and may have been driving it. Police also did not have a license plate number for the vehicle, which was last seen heading southbound on Rogers Lane. Police did not find any shell casings or other evidence in the area, Sgt. Robert Locke-Paddon said.
“We couldn’t locate anything,” he said.
Police did not know the motive for the shooting, which police said did not appear to be gang-related.
The shooting damaged two vehicles parked near the party, police said.
Police are also looking into whether Saturday’s incident is related to the unsolved incident last December when suspected gang members fired two 20-gauge shotgun blasts into the air on the 100 block of Southgate Court in south Gilroy. A similar style shooting occurred the month before on the small dead-end street, but police said at the time that the incident did not appear gang-related. Nobody was injured and no structures were damaged in either shooting, but police are still searching for the suspects who left behind shotgun casings and other, unspecified evidence. Witnesses said the vehicle from which those shots were fired was a purple Honda sedan with tinted windows and chrome rims.
