Police are searching for a man who robbed the Bank of the West today.
The man entered the bank, 7865 Monterey Street, about 1:45 p.m. and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the teller, taking an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. He was described as a white male between 45 and 55 years of age, about 5-feet 6-inches to 6-feet tall, weighing between 180 and 210 pounds. He was wearing a blue base ball cap, glasses and a mask covering his face. He was further described as wearing a black or dark colored jacket, light blue jeans and brown shoes.
He fled in a white or champagne colored, newer SUV.
Gilroy Police detectives are investigating the robbery.
The robbery comes one week after a man wearing a mesh mask robbed a Bank of America in Morgan Hill and took off on a scooter.
According to Morgan Hill police Det. Kevin Beilmann, the man, who is described as a white male in his 20s, could obviously see through the mask judging from his actions in the band and as he left.
A dye pack was included with the money, according to Morgan Hill Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer, and the suspect may have been burned by the chemicals. The money he stole was likely tainted by the dye.
The bank offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in last week’s armed robbery.
