The widow of Richard M Smit, Maryanne is survived by four children and their spouses: Ivy and Richard Weiner of Los Banos, Alicia and Sal Flores of Des Moines, Sam and Rochelle Smit of Seattle and Sybil Smit of Morgan Hill; nine grandchildren: Jamison, Elli and Anthony Weiner, Marylee and Casandra Ruiz, Marcella, Obadiah and Steven Flores, and Brian Smit; and four great-grandchildren.

Maryanne was born on Oct. 11, 1934 in Salem, Mass. and moved to Washington State in 1956, where she become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, met Richard and, while raising her family in Seattle, volunteered in public schools and enjoyed planning and catering dozens of weddings. In 1987, she moved to California then returned to Washington in July 2002. She loved people, dancing and entertaining, and her many friends were attracted to her humor, warmth and good conversation. She was known for the many hats she wore.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 8530 Forest St., Gilroy.
