Mazza, a member of Los Padres, eliminated Grider of the Great Danes five hours and five minutes into action in the 44-player tournament.

The Crew, consisting of Jesse Jimenez, Jerry Brown, Beverly Kludt and Norma Seagar, claimed the charity-themed tournament team title. Jimenez and Brown each made the Final Table, with Kludt a solid 11th.

Seefood earned second-place team awards as three of the team’s four players, Kevin Noto (sixth), Jerrod Anderson and Chad Brownfield finished in the top 12. Seefood teammate Dave Stewart was the first player eliminated, holding pocket aces but losing to a spade flush.

The Wednesday Poker Ladies placed third in the one-day competition hosted by the Gilroy Community Services Department. Team captain Deanna Hoenck sparked the team with a fourth-place finish. Teammate Rose Crocco, sitting at Table One with the use of braille playing cards, dominated early play and lasted four hours for 10th place.

The Queen and Her Court nabbed fourth-place honors as Vicki Velasquez (14th), Liz Gutierrez (15th) and Lydia Cano (16th) finished with solid scores.

The Great Danes finished fifth, aided by a 22nd place showing from Mary Cutter, and a 23rd by Gina Blundo.

The Crew will be able to defend its title on Saturday, Aug. 27 when the End of Summer Tournament, again a No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Poker event, is offered at the Senior Center. Team registration opens Monday, Aug. 1 at 2pm.
