MORGAN HILL – A Morgan Hill man was killed when he drove his car off the U.S. 101 Bernal Road off ramp Sunday night.

Louis Ramirez, 31, was ejected from his 1993 Chevy Jimmy after it veered off the road for unknown reasons.

“We do not know why he drove off the road,” CHP Officer Terry Mayes said. “It appears there were no witnesses.”

The accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday when Ramirez, driving alone, exited northbound U.S. 101 and veered off the east side of the offramp.

He was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the roadway off the offramp, Mayes said. San Jose Fire Department personnel declared Ramirez dead at the scene.

Ramirez’s vehicle overturned twice down the offramp’s grass embankment, coming to a rest facing south after crashing into a fence. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The county coroner’s office will determine if Ramirez suffered from a medical condition that may have caused him to drive off the road, Mayes said.
