MORGAN HILL – The Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement retailer, will open its newest store in North America Wednesday for a grand opening celebration to Morgan Hill-area residents and city officials.

The next morning, the store will open for its first full day of business beginning at 6 a.m. Located at 860 E. Dunne Ave., near Highway 101, the new store is Home Depot’s 177th in California.

To commemorate the new store’s grand opening, Home Depot will host a special “Neighborhood Night” for the community. The sneak preview begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28. The event will include a stage program where Home Depot will doante $2,000 to the Morgan Hill Community Foundation and introduce city officials who will help dedicate the new store.

The new store – formerly Kmart – measures 103,000 square-feet, and features Home Depot’s most modern floor plan, with newly redesigned departments, a special home décor section, tool rental and an expansive 17,000 square-foot outdoor garden center.

The store’s new floor plan includes the DesignPlace, a special area in the center of the store that unifies all the product categories related to home décor. The DesignPlace enables Home Depot to present complete solutions, formulated under the direction of professional designers, and is one of Home Depot’s most successful innovations in the last couple of years.

In addition, the new store will feature an expanded appliances section, a large professional grade outdoor garden center, a special high-technology paint department and a tool rental center, offering a wide variety of tools for rent by the hour or day. The new store also is equipped with a sales department to handle orders from professional builders and contractors.

“This store is the finest example of what we have to offer, with wider, more navigable aisles and brighter lighting,” said store Manager Kevin Ukestad. “And by creating more than 125 new jobs, it is a testament to the strength of the economy here and a major vote of confidence in the community.”

As the world’s largest home improvement retailer, Home Depot also is an authoritative source for the newest, most innovative products on the market. It’s exclusive brands include John Deere garden tractors, professional grade Ridgid power tools, Hampton Bay ceiling fans, Thomasville cabinetry and even paint from Ralph Lauren.
