Senior nets 12 points in second half of 26-14 victory
GILROY – Deborah Senior tossed in 12 points, all in the second half, as the Monarchs climbed into a tie for first place at 3-1 in the Girls’ 8-10 Grade with a 26-14 nod over co-leader Sparks Saturday as Gilroy High School’s Bob Hagen Memorial Gymnasium.
Stephanie Salario adeed seven points, Vanessa Funk a three-point field goal for the Monarchs. Amanda Spellman scored five points, Caitlin Chisolm four for the Sparks. The teamms were tied at 6-6 at the intermission before the Monarchs took a 14-13 lead into the fourth period.
Brianna Mah powered to 10 points, Amber Etienne eight as the Queens of the Court defeated the Lady Celtics 25-10. Elizabeth Komar made five points and Laureen Etienne ignited a third-period surge with a basket. Caitlyn Pierotti and Tiani Louis drilled two field goals each for the Lay Celtics.
Boys’ 8-9 Grade:
The Eastside Ballerz moved to 3-1 atop the six-team league Saturday with a 34-33 edging of the 76ers at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Joey Gallo scored 20 points to ignite the Eastside offense. Derek Jensen tallied 23 points for the 1-3 76ers.
Frank Tomasetti exploded for 13 points to help the 3-1 Rockets by the Huskers 41-20. Brandon Harrel added 10 points for the winners, Kevin Bruce six for the Huskers.
Joey Morrow made two 3-pointers in overtime as the Ballerz outlasted the Sonics 38-35. Morrow paced the winners with 11 points. Adam DeLeon and Anthony Bravo each scored six Ballerz markers. Steven Mensey scored 22 Sonics points.
Boys’ 6-7 Grade:
The Orange Crush scored 23 points in the second half as trim the Magic 31-24 Saturday at Solorsano Gym.
Shaq Johnson dropped in 11 points, Lukas Fortino six for the 3-0 Crush. Five other Crush shooters added field goals. Raul Quintanar struck for 10 points for the improving Magic.
The Blue Devils jumped to 3-1 with a 29-19 victory over the Runnin’ Rebels. Nathan Kassel hit one 3-pointer on the way to 10 Devil points. Nick Marra scored six points and Jonathon Higgins made one 3-pointer for the Rebels.
The Suns moved to 2-1 with a 31-25 verdict over the Clippers. Juaquin Silva tossed in 12 points, Logan Sweaney 11 for the Suns. Casey Heath hustled to six points for the 2-2 Clippers.
Girls’ 6-7 Grade:
Emily Loera pulled down 15 rebounds Saturday as the unbeaten (3-0) Lady Celtics topped the Fab Five 15-11 Saturday at Solorsano Gym.
Chelsey Urbanski scored six points, Jennifer Rose four for the league leaders. Laura Spellman collected six points for the Fab Five.
Lydia Teschera scored six points and Kristin Costa and Geralyn Moon added four apiece as the Spurs outlasted the Sparks 16-12. Costa’s four points erased a 12-12 deadlock. Elissa Torres led the Spurs defensive pressure. Kristy Pineda made six points for the Sparks.
Angel Senior’s 13 points carried the Monarchs by the Liberty 23-16. Sovannida Nov scored eight points for the winners. Katie Kishimura raced to eight points for the Liberty.
Girls’ 5 Grade:
Laurie Rhodes netted 13 points Saturday as the 4-0 Sparks defeated the Magic 23-4 at Gilroy High School.
Francesca Filice and Cassidy Daley followed with four points each, while Jessica Jarvis dished several assists and Alessandra Filice paced the defensive unit. Ashley Lambert and Breanna Rose sank baskets for the Magic.
Katelyn Nebesnick struck for eight points as the Monarchs powered past the Jazz 18-14. Sarah Leach and Lindsey Holt each scored four Monarch points, while Randi Groppe collected three rebounds. Dami Hemeon and Alyssa Lujan hustled to six points apiece, Jenae Robinson pulled down four rebounds and Marisa Admankhani and Chelsea Chilman both hustled to keep the Jazz in contention.
Jessica Gonzales and Sarah Lira each scored four points as the Sonics trimmed the Blazers 10-6. Emily Costa scored four Blazer points.
Boys’ 5 Grade:
A.J. Breen poured in 10 points and Quillan McJunkin netted nine as the 3-0 Magic defeated the Blazers 29-12 Saturday in Bob Hagen Gymnasium.
Derrick Collige added five Magic points. Erik Brolin contributed four points to the Blazer attack.
Dietrich Baumgartner made eight points, seven rebounds and three steals as the Lakers (3-1) topped the Warriors 30-18. Sean Monroe added 10 points and 13 boards, Connor Ross six points and Chris Catanzaro eight steals for the winners. Christopher Drysdale hit two 3-pointers in a 12-point assault for the Warriors.
Girls’ 3-4 Grade:
Kaylana Mah struck for 12 points, Michelle Sosa 10 in a 22-10 Hot Shots victory over the Lady Monarchs Saturday at Wheeler Community Center. Sarah Ordaz led the winners in assists. Ashley Williams logged six points and Hayley Peterson led the defense for the Lady Monarchs.
The Broncos moved to 3-1 with a 42-16 decision over the Rockets. Sara Sauceda netted 18 points and 10 rebounds, Briana Foreman 10 points and Sarina Sandoval 21 points for the Broncs. Hanna Tabron scored six points for the improving Rockets.
Boys’ 3-4 Grade:
Alex Gutierrez and Peter Hilkene each scored eight points as the Celtics edged the Sonics 24-23 Saturday as Wheeler.
Landon Creer added six points for the Celtics (2-2). Tanner Holland scored 10 points, Brendan Holler seven for the Sonics.
Ryan Alba scored 31 points and Bryant Cid hit for 22 as the unbeaten Cougars topped the Gladiators 53-9. Zach Bassi powered in four points and Jason Struzik, Alex Saio and Takoda Bowers also scored for the Gladiators.
The 4-0 Cavaliers defeated the Raptors 24-13 behind eight points each from Brandon Villar and Greg Spellman. Tyler Joest made six points for the Raptors.
Niko Fortino exploded for eight points as the 3-1 Warriors topped the Kings 24-18. StefanMercer collected six points, Gary Dickson earned eight rebounds and Dylan McManus had four steals. Brandon Pickens scored 10 Kings points.
