Dear Editor,
I’m responding to Ms. Jocelyn Newell’s letter about the need for more road signs. More signs is not the answer. What’s needed are more police patrols of police and drivers being more cautious. I have lived in Las Vegas for five and half years and we have a dangerous road called Blue Diamond Road/Highway 160. When the new year began, in only the month of January there were seven accidents. In February the were five. They lowered the speed limit from 60mph to 45mph because some people who travel the road were complaining.
It worked wonderfully, but not for the new speed limit because the state finally got smart and posted more police on that road. For two months it was accident free, but once it the police were hard to find, three accidents happened in one week. It is not the signs that will help, but drivers being responsible.
I was born and raised in Gilroy and I know how people drive in that area where that child was killed. I do give some of that responsibility to the parents of that child.
