The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce has chosen a seasoned veteran from Gilroy to serve as its next president.

Gilroy resident Christine Giusiana brings at least nine years of chamber experience to her new job, most recently serving for three years as Chief Executive Officer of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce.

Giusiana, who will earn around $65,000 a year in the position, worked for the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce from 1998 to 2004 serving as office manager. She’s married to former Gilroy Police Chief Gregg Giusiana.

“Ms. Giusiana brings a host of extraordinary skills and experience both with the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce as well as the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. We are very excited that she will be joining us,” said Chris Bryant, the interim president of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce.

Giusiana, who will begin her new duties May 6, succeeds former chamber president Dan Ehrler, who resigned in December to take a job with the Morgan Hill Unified School District as grant writer and public and community relations specialist.

Ehrler took over the chamber’s top job in October 2004, succeeding interim Executive Director Alex Kennett.

Lorraine Welk, a Morgan Hill chamber board member, who served as president/CEO of the chamber for 13 years, has said the business organization had five executives since she left in 1998 to work for Gavilan College’s Morgan Hill campus as site manager.

The chamber began searching for a director soon after Ehrler’s resignation, posting the job in the Western Association of Chamber Executives career bulletin. Bryant said a total 12 applicants were considered.

“I’m really thrilled to be coming back to the Morgan Hill community” said Giusiana in a prepared statement. “Although I enjoyed working at the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce I miss working close to home. I’m looking forward to working with the members I have known for many years and those I have yet to meet here in Morgan Hill, and excited to be working alongside the Morgan Hill Chamber Board of Directors and staff.”

Added Bryant: “Her experience with the Cupertino chamber brings this chamber much needed knowledge of working with large corporations. This, plus her past experience with the Morgan Hill Chamber will allow us to continue building value and providing services to our members.”
