A skateboarder was moderately injured after crashing into a pickup truck Thursday afternoon on Alkire Avenue west of the new Morgan Hill Library.

The 16-year-old boy skateboarded into the truck and suffered a broken wrist and a cut on his head as a result of the 5:51 p.m. collision, according to Morgan Hill police Sgt. Shane Palsgrove, but he likely did not receive serious head trauma.

Palsgrove said the youth was on a skateboard coming down a hill on Alkire Avenue west of the library, was unable to stop and hit the pickup truck, which was going south on Dewitt Avenue. The driver of the truck saw the teen coming down the hill and stopped, Palsgrove said, but the teen could not maneuver around the truck and clipped the front of it.

The teen rolled over the hood of the truck, cracking his head on the pavement when he landed. He was transported by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital, Palsgrove said, but his condition was not known Friday morning.

Dewitt Avenue, from West Main Avenue to Alkire Avenue and a portion of Alkire Avenue, was closed for approximately half an hour while officers investigated and the teenager was treated by paramedics before he was taken to the hospital.

The teenager was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the truck was not injured and did not receive a citation from police.
