California Highway Patrol officers, Emergency Medical Services and fire personnel responded to a motorcycle crash this morning that ended near Watsonville Road in Gilroy. The driver suffered minor injuries according to Sgt. Pedro Espinoza with the Gilroy Police Department.

One resident who witnessed the motorcyclist tearing down Burchell Road, which veers northwest off Hecker Pass, said it appeared as if the driver was actively evading law enforcement. CHP vehicles were seen pursuing the motorcycle driver, neighbors said.

Another resident said the motorcyclist took a corner too fast and lost control, causing extensive damage to a 6-foot chain fence at a bend in the road.

Public Information Officer Erica Elias with the CHP is out of the office today and the CHP would not provide any additional details on the incident.
