Kavi Duvvoori, a Gilroy senior at Mount Madonna college-preparatory school on 491 Summit Road, has received two prestigious awards: The “National AP Scholar” and “AP Scholar with Distinction” from the College Board.
The awards are in recognition of exemplary college-level achievement on Advanced Placement Program examinations. Duvvoori received perfect scores on all nine AP exams he took – even though he had not taken courses in several of the subjects. The highest score on an AP exam is a 5.
“AP Scholar with Distinction” awards are given to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and score 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. “National AP Scholar” awards are conferred to students in the U.S. who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and score a 4 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Duvvoori lives in Gilroy and has attended Mount Madonna School since preschool.
“He is one of the most intellectually gifted and giving students I have ever had the pleasure to teach,” says Melissa Sanders-Self, Mount Madonna’s high school English teacher. “We can talk for hours about literature, poetry, philosophy and history. Sometimes he knows more than I do about a certain writer and I forget completely that I am talking to a student and not a peer from the university literature faculty.”
