MORGAN HILL – An injured female mountain lion was killed Friday morning after wandering onto the Alpine Recreation and Motor Homes sales lot.

Just before 11:30 a.m. the Morgan Hill Police Department Dispatch was notified that a mountain lion was under a trailer at Alpine Recreation, 19380 Monterey Road, in north Morgan Hill. Officers responded and confirmed that an adult-size mountain lion was present.

According to Lt. Terry Booten, when officers arrived they determined that the lion did not present a risk to residents or employees, so the area was cordoned off while the state Department of Fish and Wildlife Services were notified.

It was determined that the lion had been injured and had left a blood trail to the trailer. Based upon the injuries to the lion and its proximity to populated areas it was determined by the DFWS that the only course of action would be to put the animal down.

“The wounds were consistent with it being hit by a car,” Booten said.

The DFWS and an officer from the Morgan Hill Police Department shot and killed the lion. She was removed from the area in the custody of the DFWS for examination at their laboratory. The lion was approximately 3 years old.

Alpine Recreation declined comment.
