More than $200,000 worth of renovations to the Mulberry Picnic Area on the park side of Christmas Hill Park are in their final stages as the home of the Gilroy Garlic Festival will soon be flooded with thousands of festival goers.
Executive Director Brian Bowe of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association said they are “right on schedule” to unveil the new beautifully landscaped area, which is designated as the Children’s Area.
The Mulberry Picnic area, long overdue for an upgrade, has a large barbecue pit, a diminutive kitchen, 20 or so picnic tables and four pergolas or arbors wrapped in wisteria vines. A complete overhaul of the area
Festival organizers funded the Mulberry Picnic Renovation Project – a complete overhaul of the area that includes new concrete picnic tables, new pergolas, cement ground covering and a fresh grass area – with money raised from last year’s festival.
The 35th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (gates close at 6) July 26-28 at Christmas Hill Park. Tickets are $17 for adults, $8 for kids ages 6-12 or seniors 60+. Discount tickets are available online.
