Gilroy pride was in the air during Friday night’s football game at Watsonville High School. The visitors’ stands were packed with family and friends wearing their blue and gold attire from head to toe. As it grew closer to game time, the excitement rose and I began to realize that I had front row seats to watch all the action … I was on the sidelines.

You might think that I am one of those hard working, sweaty football players, but actually I am a sports medicine student. My job is to make sure the team has plenty of water and to learn how to handle the injuries that take place on the field. However, during Friday’s game, I didn’t feel like I was just a water girl.

There was so much action on the field – players shouted, whistles blew, touchdowns were scored and interceptions turned into game-changing events. It was as if I was playing on the field, too.

Gilroy’s hard work and intensity throughout the game paid off at the end with a victory over the Wildcats. It put the final touch on an action-packed game.

As the season continues, I hope that every game will be filled with as many amazing plays. The Mustangs’ season has started out with a bang.

The view from the sidelines showed me that it will end that way, too.
