SALINAS – A late three-point shot by Salinas’ Kyle Vasher proved to be the difference in Monday’s Tri-County Athletic League contest against the Gilroy High boys’ basketball team.

The 50-47 loss drops the Mustangs to 4-4 in the TCAL, 13-9 overall.

Tyler Hartman had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead Gilroy, while fellow forward Dolapo Opere scored 12 to go with 11 rebounds.

The Mustangs led 23-22 at halftime, and entered the fourth quarter ahead by one, 35-34, after both teams scored 12 in the third. A 16-12 advantage for Salinas (18-5 overall, 5-3 TCAL) in the fourth quarter gave the hosting Cowboys the three-point victory.

Gilroy will be back on the court Thursday when it plays its final away game of the regular season at Alvarez. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
