Gilroy wins Mission San jose Invitational for third straight
year
First the Mustangs delivered a right hand hook that staggered the competition at the Overfelt Classic. Then they hit the 53 teams at the Mid-Cal Classic with an upper cut that sent them reeling. And then this weekend they delivered the knockout punch at the Mission San Jose Invitational, winning the tournament for the third straight year.
“We did great and I’m really proud of the way the guys wrestled. Five of our wrestlers made it to the finals, three took away titles and eight placed,” said head coach Armando Gonzalez. “We’re three time defending champions but never have we won by this sizable a margin. It’s difficult for us up there because we’re not part of the North coast section.”
The Gilroy wrestlers by weight class did as follows:
103 – pounds – Martin Gonzalez finished second to Kellan Aura of Liberty, ranked second in the state. Gonzalez trailed 1-0 in this match and threw Aura down for a takedown just after the buzzer sounded.

125 pounds – Rudy Melddanado seeded sixth lost 2-1 and placed fourth.
130 pounds – Chris Krough failed to place after finishing third Mid-Cals
