The Gilroy Lady Mystics earned a fourth place finish in the
prestigious National All-Star tournament that took place April
11-13 in Southern California. The tournament brings teams from all
over the country to compete at the All-Star level. After compiling
a 14-4 record, the Mystics earned a trip to Nationals by qualifying
in a local tournament.
The Gilroy Lady Mystics earned a fourth place finish in the prestigious National All-Star tournament that took place April 11-13 in Southern California. The tournament brings teams from all over the country to compete at the All-Star level. After compiling a 14-4 record, the Mystics earned a trip to Nationals by qualifying in a local tournament.

“These girls played with lots of heart and determination all season long,” head coach Al Orosco said. “I had a great group of parents that supported me from the first day of practice. We came to Nationals, and represented the city of Gilroy extremely well.”

While in Los Angeles, the Mystics opened play with a hard-fought loss to eventual champion RSM Fire (Orange County) 43-28. The girls bounced back with a convincing 37-18 win over Flagstaff Arizona.

Finishing second in pool play, the Mystics then faced the St. Joseph Missouri Tigers in the Championship bracket. A come from behind victory, 36-34, put the garlic girls into the trophy round where in the quarterfinals, the girls took one on the chin by falling to Foothill (Bay Area) 42-13. Playing their third game of the day, the Mystics then fell to the Fairfield Showstoppers 42-32. The game was extremely physical and even ended with only four Fairfield players on the court.

The Mystics were made up of 5th and 6th grade girls from the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area. Guards for the team included: Cydney Caradonna, Holly Lam, Abby Kienle, Dejah Raoof and Emma Leach; forwards included: Deanna Orosco, Brianna Barron, Emily Hilkene and Leilani Mah; and assistant coaches were Bruce Mah and Zack and Ryan Orosco.
