Dear Editor,

It is with pleasure I recommend the name Charles Gubser for the new school. The Gubsers were pioneers who arrived in Gilroy in the 1800s. Some still reside in Gilroy.

Charles Gubser attended Gilroy schools and furthered his education to receive his high school teaching credential before returning to teach at Gilroy High School – his alma mater – where he taught many of his friend’s family members.

He was an excellent teacher. He recognized those with special needs. He tried to make his classes exciting and was loved by all. South County residents urged “Charlie” to enter politics, and he was elected as state Assemblyman for our district, then continued on to Congress where he was the youngest member in the United States House of Representatives for many years. He used his love and knowledge of our district to introduce fellow members of Congress to our fruits and vegetables and our beautiful area.

Farmers were very important to Charlie Gubser. His local meetings were lively and well received. He listened, he spoke and he was heard – always with the intent to help all.

Please consider the name of Charles Gubser, and educator and representative of our city, county and state for our new school.

Sadie Frassetti, Gilroy
