Readers submitted 19 ideas for the brand name of a new line of motorcycles local resident Rey Sotelo and George Nobile of Santa Clara plan to start producing here in the fall.
A number of readers responded, all via the Internet. Of the five who gave their names, only one was from Gilroy. Joanne Kraemer submitted Phoenix.
Fritz Crichfield of Terre Haute, Ind. thought Destiny Cycles would be a good name. Ed Horwitz of Chicago suggested Resurrection.
One reader who did not give his or her name or place of residence submitted 15 suggestions, most of which had a patriotic theme.
Sotelo and Nobile have not yet settled on a brand name for the bikes. The possibilities they mentioned to The Dispatch were to resurrect Sotelo’s old California Motorcycle Company nameplate or to use the name of their new motor: Revolution.
Meanwhile, Nobile on Tuesday said Sotelo and he have been “swamped with calls” in the wake of unveiling their motorcycle-making plans earlier this month. Many of the callers are people looking for jobs with the new venture. Others are machine shops and vendors looking to sell their parts.
