Dear Editor,

Ms. Sadie Frassetti’s comment on the naming of the new high for ex-congressman Charles Gubser is wrong, wrong, wrong!

Mr. Gubser never went to war; he received a deferment because he was a “farmer” growing garlic for the war effort. The United States won WWII without Mr. Gubser’s participation!

I am inalterably opposed to naming a school or anything else for that matter for him when we have so many young men who died in service to our country and whose memories should be honored.

I know there are many young men whom we should honor for their valiant service to our country. One such young men was Alvin Painter (I don’t know if the spelling is correct).

Al Painter was a year or so ahead of me in high school. Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marines. He was one of the first to die in Korea. I don’t think he was of legal age to vote when he died.

Let us honor our brave people who gave their all for us to enjoy our birth rights given us by the United States Constitution.
