GILROY—Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident in Gilroy as Salvador Briseno Gonzalez, a 57-year-old homeless man, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office reported Wednesday.

GILROY—The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has opted not to file criminal charges against a veteran Gilroy police officer following a May incident where his teenage stepdaughter shot herself in the leg with his personal handgun.

Gilroy police made arrests for a variety of crimes between Sept. 1 and 8, including assault with a firearm, indecent exposure, kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Arrests were recorded in the Gilroy Police Department blotter and compiled using public records.

GILROY—A 57-year-old man died Tuesday after he was struck in a hit-and-run incident on Sept. 4, Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Royce Heath said.

Gilroy police made arrests for a variety of crimes between Aug. 22 and 30, including arson, battery, driving under the influence and prowling. Arrests were recorded in the Gilroy Police Department blotter and compiled using public records.

MORGAN HILL—Accused Morgan Hill child molester Nicolas Lhermine agreed to a 60-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting four young female victims at a YMCA daycare center at Paradise Valley Elementary School.

SOUTH COUNTY—The California Highway Patrol will be on the lookout for impaired drivers at a special checkpoint somewhere in southern Santa Clara County Saturday, according to a statement from the agency’s Hollister-Gilroy office.

SOUTH COUNTY—Authorities are seeking witnesses to a late-night sexual assault that took place Wednesday off of U.S. 101 in southern Santa Clara County.

GILROY—The parents of a 15-year-old girl killed in a car accident on Miller Avenue are planning to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. The family believes that another fatal wreck in the same location three months prior should have moved the city to make safety improvements.

A complaint filed by attorneys for one of John Loyd’s child victims alleges the former Paradise Valley Elementary School teacher was allowed by school district and campus staff to violate education laws that are designed to keep children safe.
