Police: Missing elderly woman found close to home
GILROY—A 91-year-old woman who went missing from her home in south-central Gilroy Wednesday led to the issuance of a citywide alert just before 3:25 p.m, but within minutes she was found not too far from her own residence, according to Gilroy police.
Police blotter: June 22 to July 6
The Gilroy Police Department made arrests for a variety of crimes between late-June and early-July, from felony arson to exhibition of a deadly weapon and grand theft. Arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter between June 22 and July 6.
Surveillance cameras stolen from Gilroy middle school
GILROY—South Valley Middle School is in the dark after nearly $4,000 worth of surveillance equipment was stolen from the campus June 26, Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Royce Heath said. Two unidentified males clambered onto the roof around 2:15 a.m. and pried six cameras from their housing under the cover of darkness.
Victims in Sandoval case must file complaints by July 6
GILROY—Victims of Leticia Sandoval, a woman accused of swindling hundreds of thousands from Gilroy Hispanics, have until July 6 to submit complaints to Santa Clara County Superior Court in order to put a stop to her federal court bankruptcy and the automatic cancellation of all of her debts, even those acquired through alleged criminal activity.
Wildfire sends smoke toward Gilroy
GILROY—A wildfire that sparked in a canyon 10 miles south of Gilroy, just south of the U.S. 101/25 interchange, caused smoke to billow throughout the Garlic Capital.
Brush fire contained near Roop and Leavesley roads
About 20 acres of vegetation burned in the area of Roop and Leavesley roads as of about 2:45 p.m. on Monday, June 29. The fire was reported contained at that time.  No structures were burned or threatened by the blaze, and no injuries were reported. The fire appears to have been on private property, although Santa Clara County’s Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park is nearby. The cause of the fire is unknown, according to Jim Crawford, CAL FIRE Battalion Chief. Â

GILROY—A federal appeals court ruled this week that a Santa Clara County judge made "egregious misstatements" while arguing the people’s case as prosecuting deputy district attorney in the 2001 murder of a man in Gilroy.

Woman still wanted in connection with Heiser murder
GILROY—With three suspects accused of the Feb. 16 slaying and robbery of Gilroy’s Robert Heiser behind bars, one piece of the puzzle remains missing. Isabella Aurora Chaidez, a 17-year-old San Jose woman wanted in connection to his murder and at least one other violent crime in the Bay area, is still on the lam, according to Gilroy police.
