In a 4-3 vote, the Gilroy City Council on Monday took a big step in approving the design of a 73-unit housing project south of Hecker Pass Highway.

Three Gilroyans on county grand jury

The Honorable Patricia M. Lucas, Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, has announced the names of the final candidates for the 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury. Judge Lucas has selected three members from the 2016-2017 Civil Grand Jury to serve a second term. They are Nigel Johnson (Gilroy), Richard Spencer (San José), and Peter Hertan (Los Gatos), who has been appointed Foreperson. The new Grand Jury will be selected at the Impanelment Ceremony, today, Thursday, June 22, 2017. Sixteen names will be drawn from the list of 27 finalists, to complete the 19-member panel of the 2017-2018 Civil Grand Jury. They will serve a one-year term, ending June 2018.

Developers sue city of Gilroy for allegedly illegal development fees

Three developers, including the Glen-Loma Corporation, owned by Filice family members who are longtime residents and developers in Gilroy, have sued the City of Gilroy for thousands of dollars in relief for "unjustified and excessive development fees" as well as unspecified attorney fees, according to court documents.

Seniors and Vets Fear Losing Meals on Wheels

Marilia Andrade, 67, lives alone at The Village Green, a seniors only gated community in Gilroy. Past the gate, the grass surrounding her apartment is green and well manicured. New looking and well-maintained homes sit nearby in a quiet and cozy neighborhood. In her room, Andrade, wearing a comfortable blue gown and pink and blue knitted cap, is still moving in. It's been a busy year for her. For three months she received chemotherapy to treat her pancreatic cancer and losing part of her freedom has been a difficult transition.
