GILROY—In a closed session meeting, the Gilroy City Council will be interviewing candidates for the position of interim city administrator, Mayor Don Gage told the Dispatch.

SAN JOSE—The Santa Clara Valley Water District, water wholesaler to 1.8 million people, has championed local conservation. The public agency runs three treatment plants for drinking water. It also manages 10 dams and reservoirs, 400 ponds that replenish our groundwater and 275 miles of creeks and streams.

GILROY—Criminal action against owners of a dangerous downtown building will be halted if they make progress to address its earthquake safety issues, the city has agreed.

GILROY—Over the last three years, City Hall employees mailed 51 letters to the owners of the Water Store downtown to alert them about the building’s dangerous condition, according to documents provided to the Dispatch by City Administrator Tom Haglund. The problem is, they all went to the same place.

GILROY—After seven years as Gilroy’s city administrator, Tom Haglund will be leaving his post for the Sierras.

GILROY—City officials weren’t bluffing when the Gilroy Police Department mailed arrest warrants to the owners of two downtown buildings cited as earthquake safety hazards.

 

GILROY—An application to expand Gilroy city limits by nearly seven percent will not go before the Santa Clara County Local Agency Formation Commission Organization for deliberation by the end of the year as planned, according to Community Development Director Kristi Abrams.

GILROY—Hispanic voting rights advocates have challenged a trio of draft plans for new voting districts drawn by Gavilan Community College as it carefully makes a historic switch from at-large to by-district elections for the board of trustees.

GILROY—Options to renovate or relocate the Interim Center from the Arts from its current home in downtown Gilroy would cost between $1.5 million and $24 million, according to discussions at Monday’s special council study session regarding the building’s future.
