Council punts pool back to schools

City Council members butted heads for an hour Monday evening before voting 4-1 to ask the Gilroy Board of Education to explore what – if anything at all – the school district can contribute to help save the defunct pool at South Valley Middle School.

City Council voted 4-1 Monday night to put the discussion of saving the defunct pool at South Valley Middle School in the lap of the Gilroy Unified School District to give them the opportunity to discuss how much they could contribute to the $621,850 estimated price tag to fix and operate the pool for one year.

After huge fuss, Council orders ‘paint the crosswalk’

After City staff defended their reasons to angry residents for removing a heavily trafficked crosswalk on Wren Avenue and Byers Street near El Roble Park for three months, Council told staff to repaint the crosswalk immediately during their regular meeting Monday.

Gov. Jerry Brown's Proposition 30 that will raise taxes to stave huge cuts to public education passed with 53 percent of the vote and 100 percent of California's vote reported.
