Newspaper picnic contest winner revealed
The entries for the Best Local Winery to Have a Picnic contest poured in from folks who bubbled over for their favorite winery to sip wine and well, have a picnic. There were so many great entries that we were pressed to add an extra winner – a tie for fifth place - and are giving a grand-prize to the outstanding entry. Gilroy High fills a pair of coaching vacancies
It has been a busy six months on the coach-search front at Gilroy High School. Vacancies have popped up at a dandelion-like rate with coaches leaving posts for a variety of reasons. But with the fall season fast approaching, GHS filled two coaching voids, hiring Kassi Swalboski for girls varsity volleyball and Tim Jones for boys varsity basketball, athletic director Julie Berggren said Tuesday.

GPD approaches pit bull attack investigation with caution
The Gilroy Police Department is slowly and “cautiously” approaching the investigation of the July 12 pit bull attack at Starbucks on First Street, hesitant to make an arrest before both sides of the story have been thoroughly examined, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao.
