Police find pound of pot in occupied parked car

Two people were arrested with a pound of marijuana in their car after police saw them smoking a joint outside a downtown restaurant, authorities said.

Carl is survived by daughters Janet Somavia, Virginia Coombes, her husband John Coombes, his sister Jean Harriman, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, his church family and friends.

UPDATE: Coroner identifies deceased Hollister hiker

The body of a Hollister hiker was extracted Sunday afternoon from the rocky face of a tree-covered mountain jutting high above Highway 152, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.

Arleen Elizabeth Sadler-Freeze June 27, 1938 – February 21, 2012

Resident of Gilroy, Arleen was born in San Jose to Francis W. and June Sadler. She was raised in Los Gatos. She met her husband of 52 years, James Freeze at the San Jose State Carnegie Student Union.

In search of its 10th consecutive section championship, Gilroy High (227.5) holds a 98.5-point lead over second-place Palma (122) heading into tonight’s Central Coast Section wrestling finals, which begin at 7 p.m. at Independence High in San Jose.

WRESTLING: CCS Day 1 recap

Gilroy High sits in first place and will have seven wrestlers in the semifinals after the first day of the Central Coast Section Championships on Friday at Independence in San Jose. The Mustangs have 123.5 points, while second place Palma has 86 points. Meanwhile, Christopher High is in 14th with two wrestlers through to the semis.

Manuel Encinas Munoz September 18, 1924 – February 23, 2012

Manuel E. Munoz passed away at Hazel Hawkins Hospital on February 22, 2012, at the age of 87. He is a native of Bisbee, AZ, lived there for a brief time, and moved to Mexico until 1948.

United Way holds breakfast to highlight community programs
