Gilroy resident receives scholarship
Carmen Garcia of Gilroy has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Silicon Valley San Jose Chapter of the California Society of CPAs. Garcia is a student at Gavilan College. The chapter recently awarded a total of $41,000 in scholarships to 18 San Jose area students. Since 1999, the chapter has awarded more than $400,000 to students pursuing degrees in accounting and related subjects.
Baty named Realtor of the Year
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage announced that Diane Baty, a sales associate in its Gilroy office, was named Realtor of the Year by the South County Realtors Alliance, a subsidiary of the Santa Clara County Association of Realtors. Baty, who has been a Realtor for eight years, has served as the SCRA Gilroy tour director for the past three years. Why did car fail smog check?
“I had my car smogged recently. Apparently it didn’t pass with them because the check engine light wasn’t turning on. The guy said that his machine checked it and it failed three times. When I took the car to a second location, it passed no problem. I mentioned about the machine the other guy was using. He said it doesn’t take a machine to check the engine light. You have to do it manually. You have to turn the key yourself and see if the check engine light comes on. I was wondering if it takes a machine to see the check engine light or if it is done manually.”
