Elvira M. Cardoza
Elvira Manitto Cardoza passed away in Hollister on September 23rd at the age of 91 years. Elvira was born in San Juan Bautista to the late Fulton and Maria Manitto. She lived in San Benito County all her life; graduated from San Juan Grammar School and San Benito High School. Elvira was the beloved wife of Antone "Tony" Cardoza for a period of 63 years until he passed away May 23, 1999. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish; a charter member of the Y.L.I. of Hollister; a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, San Juan Parlor; the Grandmothers Club; and was one of the founding mothers of the Sacred Heart Mothers Club in 1943. She loved the out of doors, cooking and gardening. "She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother", said her children. Surviving are her son Clifford Cardoza and spouse Claudia of Hollister; daughter Nadine Miller and husband Lynn of Lincoln, CA; sister Eleanor Duplissie of San Juan Bautista; grandson Richard Miller, spouse Jeannie of Rocklin, CA; granddaughters Julie Scola, spouse Paul of Saratoga; Debra Papazian, spouse Tony of Salinas, Jeannie Flynn, spouse Scott of Louisville, KY; and Nicole Reading, spouse Cori of Loomis, CA. Elvira was the great-grandmother of Sierra and Sage Papazian; Hailey and Kyle Scola; Zachary and Sydney Flynn; Caleb Reading; Maximus, Julius, and Nicolas Miller. She leaves a sister-in-law Mary Vera and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe and Naomi Cardoza , nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and friends. She will be missed tremendously by all who knew her and will be forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 16th from 12 noon until 7:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary on Friday at 11:30 A.M. for the Old Mission San Juan Bautista where a Mass of the Resurrection and a celebration of Elvira's life will commence at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Hospice or N.G.D.W. San Juan Parlor c/o the funeral home chapel.
