New immunization law requires parents to make “informed decisions”
On Sep. 30 Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2109 into law which, as of Jan. 1, 2014, requires all California parents who do not have their children immunized to read information about the benefits and risks of immunizations. Parents must sign a waiver from a physician or a nurse practitioner stating they have received that information, before they will be allowed to enroll their children in school.
Free Morgan Hill newspaper in limbo due to financial setbacks
A new weekly community newspaper in Morgan Hill has suspended operations after publishing just two editions, due to financial difficulties and a “disgruntled” employee who made steady business difficult, according to the publisher.
Winter DUI arrests continue to drop
As a part of this winter holiday season’s enhanced DUI enforcement period, officers in Santa Clara County arrested 432 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Of these arrests, 63 were made by Gilroy and Morgan Hill police.
County weighs how to recoup general plan costs
San Benito County's general plan preliminary draft is anticipated to be released in January with a final price tag of $1.2 million. With the three-year process nearly complete, supervisors are considering a way to collect some of the cost through impact fees.
