Any Italian will tell you – it’s all in the sauce. At Saint Mary School, the recipe has five decades of staying power behind it; and on Friday, the Catholic school on First Street celebrated its 140th year of education with its semi-annual spaghetti dinner. This year marked the dinner’s 50th anniversary, making the event especially significant.

The Gilroy Unified School District is facing $3 million to $7 million in state cuts next year, which means the 17-year-old pool at South Valley Middle School will sink into the growing pile of budget casualties if someone doesn't throw it a lifeline.

Ten students from Gilroy High School, Christopher High School and the Dr. TJ Owens Early College Academy (GECA) are wrapping up the trip of a lifetime 5,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
