Program allows Gavilan transfers to law schools

For Gavilan College graduate Michael Treviño, an initiative to get more students to law school is personal. Treviño was the first in his family to go to college. He attended community college before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley, and eventually went to law school at the University of Washington. Treviño is now the director of undergraduate admissions for the University of California system.

Gavilan College is preparing to celebrate the achievements of a large group of degree and certificate-earners next Friday evening. The college will be conferring 330 Associate in Art degrees, 161 Associate in Science degrees, 387 Certificates of Achievement, 22 Certificates of Proficiency, and seven Awards of Achievement. Gav doles out $83,400 in scholarships

At the annual Gavilan College Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Friday May 9, the Gavilan College Education Foundation and Financial Aid office dispersed more than $83,400 in scholarships for Gavilan College students. 72 separate monetary awards were given to 57 students, with some students garnering more than one award. 

An artistic discovery: students’ work selected for Congressional competition 

Artworks by three Mount Madonna School (MMS) eighth grade students—Lucas Caudill, Phoebe Grant and Ruby Bracher—were selected for inclusion in “An Artistic Discovery,” the 2014 Congressional Competition held to be held in Moss Landing next week and organized by District 20 Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel).
