Dear Editor,
I don’t know Robertina Franco or the Trejo family, but I DO AGREE that she should have to pay for the Calstar bills, funeral costs and maybe be suspended from use of her license for a few months. Hasn’t the Trejo family been through enough with the loss of there beautiful little boy, why should they have to further suffer the monetary burden of the loss of there child. I understand that this was not intentional but being a licensed driver means that you are responsible for your actions behind the wheel of that vehicle , and if people obeyed the speed limit laws driving by crosswalks instead of trying to beat that red light this could of been prevented. When this horrible incident happened I remember reading that the officer stated “sometimes things like this happen” but IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN, especially to our children. How do we teach our children to stay inside the crosswalk when crossing and to walk not run across the walk way when the adults driving in that area are in such a hurry that those Rules we so much try to embed in our child’s everyday lives while being out in the public or around town aren’t acknowledged. I mean do we teach our kids now to cross where ever they feel necessary? How do you explain this to our children especially the kids who knew him, that won’t ever get to see him again! So again I think jail time isn’t necessary but she should have to pay for the whole amount of the loss she has caused!
