Dear Editor,

Campaign for Children and Families recommends that Californians oppose Propositions 81 and 82 on the June 6 ballot. Prop. 81 is a deceptive ruse to get you to cough up more of your hard-earned money to build new libraries.

Taxpayers already approved a $75 million library bond, then a $350 million library bond, and now they’re back demanding we pass a $600 million bond that will cost twice as much to pay off. All this spending without accountability. Libraries aren’t needed like they used to be (think Internet research, supervised after-school study halls and school libraries).

The other big proposition, Prop. 82, would charge taxpayers $2.4 BILLION per year to entice millions of parents to abandon their young children to a mammoth government preschool system.
