Nob Hill is delivering more than $1,000 in turkey, chicken and ham to St. Joseph’s Family Center in Gilroy early next week.
“Nob Hill has been very generous in the past,” said Vicky Martin, pantry coordinator at St. Joseph’s. “I have no doubt they will do the same this year.”
Last year, Nob Hill donated a crate of 60 to 80 turkeys, 30 hams and 30 chickens, Martin said.
St. Joseph’s plans to distribute the meat as a part of their Christmas meal delivery, in which they send baskets of groceries on Dec. 17 and 18 to help needy families all over Gilroy be able to make a Christmas meal with all the traditional fixings.
St. Joseph’s also plans use what is left of the meat to serve a Christmas meal for the community at noon on Dec. 25.
The delivery is part of Raley’s and Nob Hill’s donation of 100,000 pounds of meats to food banks all over California and Nevada.
“We know that local food banks are facing great difficulty in attracting much needed donations during this economic recession,” said Jennie Teel-Wolter, community relations manager for Raley’s Family of Fine Stores. She added, “It is our hope that this donation will not only help feed hungry families today but will encourage other businesses and individuals to share in the spirit of giving throughout the year.”
Martin said St. Joseph’s needs about 150 more turkeys and hams to reach their giving goal this year.
“I know they will come in, they always do. Gilroy is always so generous,” she said.
