The nomination period to run for mayor and the city council has been extended to Aug. 12 since the incumbents did not file for reelection by Aug. 7, Gilroy City Clerk Shawna Freels reported.

In addition to the mayor’s seat, three city council seats are open in the Nov. 3 election. Mayor Roland Velasco and Councilmember Cat Tucker had earlier announced they would not be seeking reelection.

The City Clerk’s office is taking in-person and online appointments from 8am to noon during this period to process nomination papers for those seeking elective office. Prospective candidates can call 408.846.0204 or email [email protected] or [email protected] to make an appointment.

As of Aug. 7, the following candidates have qualified for the November ballot:

Mayor

• Marie Blankley (Councilmember/CPA)

• Reid Lerner (Architect)

City Council

• Carol Marques (Incumbent)

• Fred Tovar (Incumbent)

• Rebeca Armendariz (Union Business Representative)

• Zach Hilton (Firefighter/Paramedic)

• Danny Mitchell (Retired Financial Officer)
