GILROY – Western Tree Nursery claimed sole possession of first place in the Women’s Basketball League Monday with a 52-23 victory over Gaeta’s Ballers at Solorsano Gymnasium.

Melanie Corona worked inside to fashion 18 points as Western Tree produced a 3-0 mark in first-half competition. The Ballers, the defending league champion, fell to 2-1.

Marisa Taylan contributed 12 points, Michelle Deleissegues 10 for Western Tree Nursery. Laura Hennessee placed the Ballers with 10 points. Kisha Webster tossed in eight points in the second half for Gaeta’s.

Williams Dental Lab is third at 1-2 after posting a 32-16 win over the Garlic Girls.

Shante Mancera carried the Williams Dental attack with 16 points. Emily Szyndrowski aided the Dental effort with eight points. Kelly Vanni and Geronima DeLaGarza netted six points apiece for the Garlic Girls.

The Warriors upset defending champion Valerie Smith Intero 55-54 Wednesday to move into first place in the Men’s Basketball League with a 3-1 mark at Solorsano Gym.

Mike Vanni poured in 18 points as the Warriors built a 25-17 intermission edge before holding onto the lead in the closing seconds. Adolfo Tellez worked inside for 15, Frank Palacios the perimeter for 13 for the Warriors. Mark Cisneros led Valerie Smith Intero (2-1) with 24 points. Marcos Barbosa followed with 10 markers, Kevin Steele nine.

South Valley Disposal also reached 3-1 with a 53-46 defeat of Team Techron.

Rick Vasquez struck for 16 points, Robert Rodriguez 14 for the Disposal. Frank Tomasetti led Team Techron (2-1) with 23 points, Kendrick Arcueta next with 12.

Daniel Crowe exploded for 23 points and Cliff Dennett hit for 19 as GC Farms edged Crunch Tme 60-56 to leave both clubs at 2-2.

Michael Yoshia produced 14 points for the Farmers. Tucker Baksa popped in 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half for Crunch Time. Jason Wolowitz scored 13 points, Kyle Billlups and Matt Goshia nine apiece for the Crunch.

Hard Ninety outlasted the Gilroy Bulls 44-41 behind 13 points from Aaron Foster. Joe Wortham worked inside for 12 points for the winners. Hector Salgado posted 14 points for the Gilroy Bulls.
