The Northern California Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association is pleased to announce that the Bob D. Smith Memorial Pro-Assistant Championship is scheduled for March 7-8, 2005 at Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill, CA. This competition will attract a field of up to 180 PGA club professionals competing in a 36-hole, 2-person team, gross better-ball event.
“This event is played annually in memory of Bob D. Smith, former golf industry representative and long-time friend of the Nor Cal PGA,” said PGA host professional Jim Collins of Coyote Creek Golf Club. “He was a kind man who had a huge passion for the game and business of golf. We are honored to host this championship in fond memory of him.”
Coyote Creek Golf Club, located along Highway 101 in South Santa Clara County, is home to two, Jack Nicklaus Signature designed courses. In addition, on site you will find a state-of-the-art driving range staffed by PGA teaching professionals, as well as fine dining and banquet facilities. It’s Samba time in Salinas
The Salinas Valley Samba Futbal Club, a member of the pro-am National Premier Soccer League, will hold open tryouts for all positions on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Otter Soccer Complex at California State University Monterey Bay, from 8:30 to 11:30am. College, national, former pro and exceptional youth players are encouraged to try out.

Strike one up for the ladies
Gilroy Bowl will host its annual Ladies House Handicap Tournament to run from March 19-27 for teams, singles and doubles. The cost is $38
to enter and the fee goes towards prize money
to be handed out to the winners. Prize money
is dependent on how many enter. For every
eight entries, teams, doubles or singles, one
will win money – 24 entries, three will win.
Participants must compete in one of the leagues at Gilroy Bowl.

Youth spikers encouraged to sign up
The United States Youth Volleyball League is not accepting registrations for the Morgan Hill spring 2005 league. Games will held at Paradise Park on La Crosse Dr. Thursdays from 6-7pm and Saturdays from 9-10am.
The USYVL is open to children 8-14 years old for all skill levels and everyone will have a chance to play.

You’ve gotta know when to hold ’em …
Bay101 Casino in San Jose will play host to the Shooting Star Poker Tournament on March 7, the 13th stop in the event’s televised tour. The final table will play on March 11. Members of the public can watch for free, but space is limited.
The tournament attracts the nation’s top poker players, who will rub elbows with local players able to drum up the buy-in of $10,000 for the chance to win $1 million.
The tournament will be televised on the Travel Network on June 8.
