With our municipal election less than a month away, I just thought it important to remind all Gilroy voters that, according to Gilroy City Councilman Robert T. Dillon, if you disagree with the city’s eminent domain proceedings against downtown property owners, or if you support legal fireworks, then you are a “nutcake” (his word, July 15, 2005, Dispatch).
Even worse than his vote for eminent domain (property seizure) was his attitude toward the property owners; When the City offered Mr. Loi Dong a mere $97,000 for his business-zoned property (with the then median home selling about $600,000), and when Mr. Dong rightfully asked for a more appropriate amount, Dillon said, “They’re not being reasonable about the prices.” Dillon’s first term in office has made him exceedingly arrogant and revealed his lack of respect for private property and for those who disagree with him. He does not deserve another term.
