Farmers' market volunteer Sue Middagh poses with an unusually large leek.

Tally ho, green-thumbed gurus! It’s time to show off your growing prowess at the Gilroy Farmers’ Market, which will host a Harvest Contest this Sunday in downtown Gilroy.

Home gardeners are encouraged to enter their prize-sized veggie in the contest. Produce will be judged on appearance, size, color, texture and taste (if applicable). The grand prize is a gift card to Station 55 Bar and Grill, located on Fifth Street in downtown Gilroy. Ribbons will be awarded to those who place first, second and third. Judging will take place from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Contestants with more than one type of vegetable to enter may submit multiple vegetables for consideration.
