My grandma used to say, "Life goes faster when you get older." I always answered in my know-it-all voice, "Everyone's day has the same amount of minutes, grandma."

Although Ron Gonzales' second and final term as mayor of San Jose is coming to an end in the next few months, we're not so naive as to believe he will fade quietly into retirement from political life.

In Mr. Frank Valadez's letter of June 16, he explains why the Gilroy Unified School District is taking a harder look at homeschoolers. He finds that an increasing number of truant families in GUSD claim to be homeschooling in order to "keep investigative personnel at bay and as a means of avoiding prosecution."
