The Gilroy Demonstration Garden will hold an organic vegetable seedling sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the garden, located on Eigleberry Street between Sixth and Seventh streets in downtown Gilroy.
Organic vegetables and vegetable starters for your spring and summer garden will be available. Demonstration Garden director Judy Hess says the garden is currently growing broccoli, herbs, fennel, onions, cabbage, red kale, cauliflower and beets, and is selling many varieties of organic heirloom tomatoes, peppers, basil, lemon cucumbers, zucchini, swiss chard, rhubarb, flowers and much more.
Funds from plant sales are used to continue the Demonstration Garden’s programs, which are centered around providing community outreach on healthy living and organic gardening, and to support school garden programs in the Gilroy Unified School District. The local philanthropic Gilroy Foundation is the fiscal sponsor of the garden, a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit corporation.
