United 4, Rambunctious Red 1

–In the first half, Red goalie Anne Walker made seven saves. In the second half, Red forward Alexandria Comin scored on a penalty kick, spoiling the shut-out. Comin delighted the spectators for the entire game with her adept footwork and fancy steals. Her second goal was unfortunately disallowed because of interference: a boys’ team fooling around behind the goal-line allowed their ball to roll onto the field. Second-half goalie Audra Robinson made four saves.

U10 Boys

Garcia’s Party Supplies Gators 8, Red Raptors 1

–Minutes into the game, forward Kevin Jones took a Leo Melendez centering pass for a quick score and 1-0 lead. Midfielder Greg Spellman got into the open and drove a long, hard shot into the right corner of the net improving the Gator lead to 2-0. Gator fullbacks Josh Kardos and Brook Oneto were relentless on the field. After a Dakota Cornelius defensive play and pass upfield, Melendez pushed the ball into the Red Raptor zone only to connect once again with Jones for another goal. Jones ended the half with another goal and a hat trick. The Gators remained hungry in the second half as Justin Elliott put in two straight goals followed by a Spellman strike. The final Gator goal was netted by Oneto. Goalkeeper Diego Torres’ shut out was broken late in the game. Defenders Frankie Subia, Troy Charvet, and Conner Morales kept the Red Raptors at bay all afternoon to help improve the Gators’ record to 3-1.

Garcia’s Party Supplies Gators 3, Cobras 1

–Gator left wing Kevin Jones’ fifth shot of the game made it through the Cobra goalie’s hands and into the open right side, where halfback Troy Charvet was able to one-touch it into the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Gators’ solid defensive wall of Josh Kardos, Brook Oneto, Frankie Subia, Gary Dickson, Conner Morales, and goalie Diego Torres neutralized the Cobra attack. Halfback Greg Spellman assisted on Leo Melendez’s goal to make it 2-0. After the Cobras cut the gap to one before the break, the right side combination of Spencer Smith and Justin Elliott were able to work together to produce a clean center to Jones – who found the back of the net. The win brings the Gators’ record to 4-1. They match up against the undefeated Earthquakes, seeking to avenge their only loss.

U8 Boys

The Storm 5, Green Tigers 1

–Zack Loo’s four-goal performance led the Storm (4-1) to victory. Loo opened the Storm scoring – but the Green Tigers came back to tie the score at 1-1. Loo scored the next three goals to put the game out of reach. Andy Hernandez scored his first goal of the season to finish up the Storm goals. Tanner Smith played strong defense for the Storm and Quinn Morales had a solid game for the Green Tigers.
