DEAR EDITOR:
My son was a student of Kristin Porter’s freshman English class and had nothing but appraisal for her teaching.
As one parent had mentioned in your paper, she has been the only teacher at Gilroy High that had the courtesy to send home with my son, her e-mail address. I found that to be very impressive, so I decided to send her a thank you note.
She immediately responded by telling me, about my son. I was relieved and actually had a good feeling about the school. E-mails continued, and as a parent, I felt my son was in good hands. Now, I am deeply concerned. I can not comprehend how a teacher who cares about her students and their parents, can be dismissed for vague reasons and then to be replaced with a substitute. Where is the concern of the students? Were they thinking about how disruptive and insensitive this would be? Why couldn’t she stay for the remainder of the year? Why was her dismissal so important that she had to be rushed out?
Sitting here at my desk, it makes me wonder what are they hiding. A conspiracy to regress by allowing acceptable grades with little or no effort?
A concerned and disappointed parent …
