Dogging a Problem
I very much enjoy walking my dogs at the new sports park but I am absolutely disgusted at the amount of people who apparently enjoy the park as much as I do, but don’t clean up after their dogs! Is there something we can do? Perhaps having the doggie clean up bag dispensers would help? I have also noticed lots of trash left behind from the baseball games. It’s a great park and it’d be nice if we took care of it.
Red Phone:
Dear Pet Peeve:
This call was a walk in the park for Red Phone. It brought your complaint to Chris Orr, Gilroy’s Parks and Landscape Supervisor, who said he would be happy to look into installing doggie bag dispensers at and around the sports park to remind dog-walkers to clean up after their pooches. As a bonus, Red Phone reminds readers to please clean up after your pets. And, in honor of Bob Barker’s retirement after 35 years on television, it also reminds you to have your pet spayed or neutered.
Over the Line
I saw the article about the parents who drop off kids on Ninth Street at the preschool (See “A Parent Problem,” June 9). And, I wanted to let you know there is a problem too between Princevalle and 10th Streets at the high school. People park right on the street and along the red curbs where you are not allowed to park. I think there should be a policeman there giving tickets to everyone who parks in the red. That really fills up traffic and it is really bad.
Red Phone:
Dear In the Red,
Yours isn’t the first complaint Red Phone has gotten about parking outside the high school. Seems some callers find cars parking in the red infuriating. Others at the high school don’t see what the big deal is and say it doesn’t really tie up traffic. There has been some confusion about parking in this area because it was allowed when the cafeteria was under construction, but is no longer. The police do ticket there sometimes.
Some at the school say the only complaints they hear are from the people who have gotten tickets for being parked in the red.
One thing Red Phone can offer, the problem will ease in just a few days when the teachers let the bulls out for summer, and there won’t be so much charging for the red.
