Verizon official confirmed that phone services have been fully restored in Morgan Hill.
Following a more than six-hour outage of phone, Internet and some ATM and debit card services, things were more or less back to normal by early Monday evening.
Morgan Hill suffered from a lack of services throughout the city after a construction crew working on the Butterfield Boulevard extension project cut a fiberoptic cable near Watsonville and Monterey roads early Monday morning.
A representative from the Morgan Hill Unified School District said services were “minimal and intermittent” for office and cell phones throughout the day for some schools and the district office, located on Concord Circle.
The Morgan Hill Police Department main phone line also experienced difficulties, although 9-1-1 emergency calls were “operating perfectly” said Sgt. Troy Hoefling with MHPD. Safeway stores posted a sign informing customers that their EBT, gift card and debit cards were down and not processing transactions throughout the day.
Besides the inconvenience the outage may have caused some residents, for one man, the outage cost him a job offer.
Wes, who declined to have his last name published, said he was waiting for a job offer worth more than $200,000 in salary. When he called Verizon from his cell phone, he said they hung up on him.
“It is a little alarming,” he said.
He said the position ended up going to someone else for the job, yet luckily, he received a call of good news for another job Tuesday morning.
