This 542-pound pumpkin, grown by Sherman Wallace of Gilroy, claimed first place in the pumpkin contest inside the Harvest Building during the Santa Cruz County Fair. The annual fair took place Sept. 13-17 at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, located on East Lake Avenue in Watsonville just over Hecker Pass Highway.
