DEAR EDITOR:
The Gilroy Eigleberry Neighborhood Association would like to thank ALL of the Gilroy Merchants and residents who made our Tamale Dinner Fundraiser a big success.
We recieved support from all parts of Gilroy not just the Eigleberry Neighborhood. Special thanks to our guest speakers, City Councilman Charlie Morales, Maria Tamez of MACSA, Daniel Chavez of United Nieghborhoods Santa Clara County, Rachel Munoz of the Gilroy Police Department, Erin Gemar from Gilroy High/Cal-Soap Program, Marilyn Roaf from the city of Gilroy, Chris Cote-Cartaway Hunger-Relief Foundation and our special guest, Dolores Huerta, the United Farm Workers Co-founder.
G.E.N.A. was honored to have Mrs. Huerta take the time to speak at our event. She reminded us of the struggle of the farmworkers before the UFW and the legacy Caesar Chavez left and to remember what he stood for on his birthday. She is an inspiration to all of us, not just the Hispanic community.
Our fundraiser was a success even before we started serving Tamales because of generous donations from Gail Williams of Williams Dental. Although I shouldn’t be surprised because they gave the same generous donation last year. Katherine Filice of Articulate Solutions ALWAYS has great raffle prizes, but instead she contributed a special personal donation. The South Santa Clara Valley War Memorial Distict/Veteran’s Hall Board for donating the hall for all of our community events. Jan Janes from CMAP who made sure we had coverage on the community access channel.
The volunteers who made it all happen: Victor Frias, Marbella Lopez, Jaime Martinez, Rudy Tamez Jr., Maria Tamez, Joe Perez, Joel Perez, Cathy Nelson, Elias Perales, Patricia Finley, Christina Barron, Brianna Barron, Jackie Barron, Robbie Barron, Art Barron Jr., Steve Barron and Ed “The Chief” Barron. Donations were recieved from the following merchants/residents. Best Buy, Dr. Daniel Palmerlee. Arline Silva – Allstate Insurance, Carlos Casas – Rickenbacker Group, Kathleen Gonzales Massage, Happy Dog Pizza, Jamba Juice, Frank’s Flowers, Weinerschnitzel, Gaeta’s Taqueria, Dicar Insurance, Arcos Market, Aldana Promotions, Dulceria La Mejor Party Supplies, Discotecas El Indito, Joyeria Torres, 7 Mares, Oasis Water, El Apapzingan Market, Anselma Marquez, Everything $10, Josephina Arbizu, Lisa Pearson, Golden Taxi and Daniel Chavez – UNSSC. Thank you.
